I am an award-winning journalist with more than 20 years of experience and currently serve as the managing editor for the Waxahachie Sun in Waxahachie, Texas, a startup publication (print and online) that opened its doors in August 2018.

I received my Master of Journalism degree from the Mayborn School of Journalism at the University of North Texas in Denton. In addition to my journalism degree, I have completed more than 18 hours of graduate level coursework in the discipline of anthropology.
My undergraduate work saw my completion of a Bachelor of Fine Arts in cinema at Southern Methodist University in Dallas and an Associate's in General Studies at Navarro College in Corsicana, Texas.
I received my Ph.D. in interdisciplinary information science from the College of Information, University of North Texas, Denton,
My committee chair was Dr. Barbara Schultz-Jones; I received my degree in May 2023.
My research interests include social network analysis and the information behavior of marginalized populations, in particular their access to information and the barriers they may encounter.
I am a participating journalist with the RJI and API Trusting News project, which is part of the Road to Pluralism Initiative, 2022-present.

I have served as a trainer/mentor for freelancers and interns throughout my journalism career and continue to do so at the Waxahachie Sun. Many of my former charges have gone on to careers in a media-related field.
At the Mayborn School of Journalism at UNT, I served in several capacities, including as a graduate assistant, research assistant, and teaching assistant.
Since the fall 2023, I have served as an adjunct professor with the Department of Information Science, College of Information, University of North Texas, Denton.
Each year, I avail myself of professional development opportunities, including those put on by the College of Information, UNT, and the various professional organizations of which I'm a member.
